If you have a business, you need Commercial Auto Insurance.
You may not realize that as a small business owner your personal auto insurance policy may have “gaps”, depending upon how you use your vehicle:
- If you transport your employees between job sites, your personal auto policywill not cover you in the event of an accident.
- For an additional small premium, you can add “artisan” coverage — protection when you use your vehicle to drive between job sites. Usually 3-5 sites are allowed under the personal auto policy. However, you still would not be allowed to transport employees.
- If you have a fleet of vehicles that you allow employees to use, you definitely need a commercial policy. A personal autopolicywill not extend coverage to your employees — even if they are listed drivers. Plus, most personal auto policies only allow four vehicles to be listed.
